The latest edition of The Iron Horse, the magazine of the Furness Railway Trust

"The Iron Horse" is the Furness Railway Trust's award-winning magazine. It is published at least twice a year to keep members up-to-date about FRT activities. 

The magazine is delivered free to members of the Furness Railway Trust. It is also available on general sale, which raises valuable income to offset production costs, and to assist the Trust in its projects.

In Spring 2005, it reached its 100th edition, with a pedigree stretching back to 1968! The first ever edition of "The Iron Horse" is shown below along with key magazine covers through the years.

The first edition of The Iron Horse was published in 1968 Special edition in 1969 marking the centenary of the Lakeside branchline 1973, the year the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway opened 1983 and the 10th birthday of the L&HR is marked with a bumper edition that set the tone for all future magazines Martin Hewlett was editor for many years, producing award-winning magazines

Initially the magazine was produced by the Lakeside Railway Society, which continued production after the formation of the Furness Railway Trust. However, in 2011, the FRT took over production of the magazine ahead of the abolition of the LRS.
