Welcome to the Furness Railway Trust's award-winning official website. The website dates back to 2000, and was substantially redesigned in 2002. We hope you like what you see, but either way, please use our contact form to let us know any comments you might have.
The site is hosted on a sponsorship basis by Furness Internet, the Barrow-in-Furness Internet Service Provider. The Trust would like to record its thanks to Furness Internet for providing the use of its servers free of charge. New web addresses have now been registered through Furness Internet for the Lakeside Railway Society and our folk band Live Steam, and these will be developed into separate websites in the future. The Site Search Engine is provided by whatuseek, also free of charge. The Trust has entered into a similar "at no cost" sales arrangement for our portfolio of high quality Fund-raising Merchandise with the Barrow-in-Furness online retailer edirectory.co.uk.
This website has won the Golden Web Award for the quality of its content and presentation.
The website is divided into a number of "chapters" detailing our various activities. The best way to find your way around the site is to use the red buttons at the top of every page. These provide a link to each and every page on the site, and more pages are being added all the time. Just click on the page you want to view, and when you're done, just select another page from the buttons at the top - what could be more simple?!
But around 1% of our users might find the red buttons do not appear. There are two possible causes to this:
Javascript is turned off on your browser. You will get a message at the top of each screen telling you to enable Javascript on your browser. If you see this, check your browser settings and turn on Javascript if it is not enabled.
Your browser is either too old, or is a rarity that is not compatible with the dynamic HTML used to run this menubar.
But panic not, you can still find your way around the site. The Home Page has links to all the main chapter heading pages in the text, as well as links to the Site map which links to every single page, the Site Search Engine and the What's New page which has links to the most recently updated pages. Every chapter heading page has links to all the pages in that chapter, and every page has links to all the chapter heading pages, to be found at the very bottom of the page. In addition, clicking on the Furness Railway Trust crest at the top of the page takes you back to the Home Page. And of course you can use the "back" button on your web browser.
