This page is kept bang up to date, to tell you where Furness Railway Number 20 is right now, when it will be running, and any other special news.

Current Location:

FR Number 20 is now at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria.

The locomotive is currently undergoing its ten yearly heavy general overhaul, which entails the removal of the boiler for a thorough assessment by the insurance inspector, and the fitting of new boiler tubes. A number of other maintenance tasks will be undertaken at the same time.

It is seen here comparing notes with the Trust's other star engine, 5643, during the July 2007 Steam Gala event on the L&HR.

Next Planned Steaming:

It is hoped that the heavy general overhaul will not throw up any significant problems, and the engine can be returned to service in time for the Victorian Evening programme in 2008.

Forthcoming Events:

Talks are taking place about Furness Railway Number 20 undertaking a tour of the north east of England this autumn. Watch this space for more details.

Note: when Furness Railway Number 20 goes on trips to other heritage railways, it is up to the hiring railway to publicise the event. For this reason, this website is not able to reveal details of any forthcoming trips, planned or confirmed, until the railway we are visiting wants the event to be publicised.
