Alan
Middleton was in his 40th year as the Society's General Secretary
when he "got the sack" as he put it! At the Society's 2007
Annual General Meeting, Linda Weldon stepped aside as the Lakeside
Railway Society's Chairman, and Alan was elected unanimously to the
top job!
Linda had served in the role for five years, and will continue to play an active role in the Society, as she inherited Alan's mantle, and is the new General Secretary!
Alan is the 6th Chairman in the history of the LRS, but has served on the Committee for all its 39 and a half year life. He was first appointed in October 1967 to "get the new Society off the ground".
That mission has now been well and truly accomplished, and Alan says the members of the LRS should be "proud of what we've achieved". He'll now lead the Society, liaising with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway Company, and chairing Society meetings.
Alan lives near Blackpool. He is a long-serving Driver on the LHR, and the line's Locomotive Superintendant. He played a leading role in the rebuilding of Furness Railway Number 20. He's recently retired after a career running his own engineering business.
